Sure enough it is all laid out with planters and seats, and there is a bar which operates in the evenings. The view is great, with the Empire State building not far away, and the Chrysler Building in the other direction (the pointy one in this photo). It would be nice up there, although in the current weather would be too hot most of the day. Perhaps early in the morning...
We headed off to the public library, but it was closed (Sunday), so we moved onto the famous Lord & Taylor department store which was lovely and cool inside, and full of nice things but not too expensive - plenty of shirts for $25 for example. Might go back and try buying stuff. Wandered on into the "fashion district" where we hunted through a well-stocked shop for a clasp to replace the one which has broken on Lisa's bag but without success. Many shops were closed on Sunday, so coming back tomorrow might be worthwhile.

I turned around to see a familiar gentleman standing beside me waiting to cross the street (familiar, that is, to watchers of a certain TV programme set in NY):
Catch Me If You Can is a based-on-reality story, once made into a Leanardo de Caprio movie, and now a Broadway Musical. Like Jersey Boys we went to the afternoon session, and the theatre was full. I think a lot of the people we see are American tourists, like the couple who stood in the queue behind us and told us all about themselves, being from Phoenix Arizona, which they assured us would be much hotter than NY right now! The show was good, more of a song and dance spectacle than Jersey Boys, although less of a story. The whole orchestra was on a large moving podium on the stage, sometimes moving right to the front and sometimes moving back and disappearing behind the backdrops.
Back outside in the sunlight, the air as hot as ever at 6pm, we wandered home by a different route with one eye open for possible providers of our dinner. Successfully purchased tickets to Cirque du Soleil ("Zarkana") at the found Radio City Music Hall - one of the largest theatres in the world I think? Found dinner in a cool, dark Irish pub and restaurant which served fish and chips, and chicken pie. After that one more leg through the heat got us to the cool of our hotel room.
