Sunday in Adelaide

Today was surprisingly rather cool, so I wore a fleece top when we set out after breakfast for our last day here.  Walked along Rundle Mall which was almost entirely closed, but stalls were being set up for an International Festival starting later today.  We found a takeaway coffee place in the railway station and took it down to the edge of the river to drink.  The "Pop Eye" river launch was slowly turning away from the jetty to head downriver with a few tourists on board.  We sat in the sun and watched it, and a few early risers setting out in paddle boats to hire.  There is construction going on all around - a new bridge crossing to the cricket ground (in time for the Ashes), and a new hospital further up river.

We caught the next PopEye and motored down the river for half an hour, photographing various swans, ducks, pelicans, and other wildlife, before disembarking at the zoo jetty.  A couple purred past in their electric motor powered kayak.  We walked back along the north bank to the University Bridge and back to the SA Art Gallery we visited yesterday.  Lunched there again, this time amid a noisy crowd of kids on some sort of programme, and finished off the exhibition spaces we missed yesterday.

On the way back Rundle Mall was now crowded and the stages were busy.  Watched a tavelling gospel group, then a Rwandan dance group, and finally some Bhutanese girls dancing.  Home again to relax over several cups of tea.

Adelaide Botanic Gardens

On Saturday we explored the Botanic Gardens, just north of the hotel.

The Palm House.

The Amazon Waterlily Pavilion.

Inside the hot and humid glasshouse.

A neat glass sculpture / water feature.
