The Met

The Metropolitan Museum of Art sits on the edge of Central Park, within its rectangular boundaries, and has almost 200,000 square metres of floorspace. It is another of the key tourist destinations here, and there were a lot of people there today, but no queues and only simple security checks - not like the Empire State Building. The exhibitions are nicely laid out, generally with plenty of space so the crowd is not much of a bother, and there are many impressive objects and recognisable artworks to be seen. There is room after room of ancient objects hundreds or thousands of years old, including a large room full of Inca gold relics. They must have had a lot of gold.
The modern art included a special exhibition of the works of Richard Serra (no, I've never heard of him either) who specialises in huge completely black rectangles, in various sizes up to 5 or 10 metres high. Occasionally for a change he does a huge black circle.

We spent a few hours there, and ate lunch at one of the cafes, happy to be inside out of the heat. Its very hot out in the sun, but waiting in the subway stations for the train is the hardest bit - it must be well over 100 degrees (F) down there. The trains themselves are slightly cooler. The weather forecast is for really hot weather on Friday - perhaps 110! Hooray!
Tonight is Cirque du Soleil night, at the Radio City Music Hall!
