The Lake District

Share
The Lake District is a pretty area of hilly country containing several lakes, large and small.  We stayed in Bowness-on-Windermere, beside the lake Windermere.  The town is a busy tourist spot with lots of restaurants and a variety of water-based entertainments such as cruises available.

We went for a 45 minute cruise around some of the islands in the lake.

On the day we left Windermere we stopped at the town of Cockermouth, where the Cocker River flows into the larger Derwent, and where William Wordsworth's family lived.  We wandered through their house and garden, and had soup for lunch there.

This fine working harpsichord is in the house, and this chap played a few ditties.
