Around Haarlem

Share

(April 16) We will soon leave Haarlem, for the time being, and go to Vienna for a couple of days to ourselves before we start our Intrepid group tour.  It is still very chilly here, especially in the wind, but our jackets, scarves, and hats are generally enough to keep us warm.

These fairground machines appeared in the Haarlem town square.

One of the more terrifying rides available.

We started noticing we could hear people screaming (from the flat), and initially wondered if there was a school nearby.  Worked out it was coming from the town square a few blocks away, from people riding on this huge machine (above).

Beautiful shot of the windmill just around the corner from the flat.

The "guest room" was quite comfortable, even sleeping on the floor!

My head on a plate.  Optical illusion at the local Teylers Museum.

One of our last outings was to the Teylers Museum, close to the flat, which is the oldest museum in the Netherlands!  Opened 1778.  It is much bigger than it appears from the street, and can easily soak up a couple of hours of your time.
