Today we trained from Tasch near Zermatt to Interlaken, which has good access to the Eiger. Interlaken's name refers to its position between lakes Thun and Brienz. We had enough time that same day to tackle the climb to Harder Kulm.

"Kulm" translates as something like "hill". Harder Kulm is a hill of 1300 metres (over 4,000 feet) above Interlaken, accessible via a funicular (cable car) from Interlaken. It was a short walk to the lower station, then a steep 10 minute ride in the funicular up to the top station. It is steeper than the Wellington cable car, and a lot longer.
Switzerland has an amazing number of mountain railways (more than 50) and they each seem to have a restaurant at the top! And often accommodation as well. We bought soup and coffee here and dined looking out at the amazing views.

| Hmm. Which direction to look? Eiger and Jungfrau in the distance (under cloud). |

| The hang gliders were launching from that hill. I counted 16 in the air. |
