Ephesus

Share
Ephesus is an ancient city dating from about 1,000 BC, buried for many centuries until archaeological work started in the 1800's.  Today about 15% of the estimated total area has been uncovered, and it is a very popular tourist attraction.  Ephesus became a large Roman city and was at its height from about 200 BC to 200 AD.

The "terrace houses" where build by the wealthy, and today a huge roof covers that area to protect the floor mosaics and frescoes which are actively being restored.  The following sculpture and artefacts are examples found in the terrace houses:

Two thousand years old, and in beautiful condition.

Tywin Lannister !?

Two inch tall gold goddess figurine, 680 BC.

Gryphon decoration, 800 BC.

Terrace house floor mosaic.

As always the local cats are well catered for.
