Phaselis

Share
On the south coast while driving form Antalya to Kas we stopped at the ancient site of Phaselis, founded about 700 BC, which is in a particularly pretty location.  The site is not particularly large, and runs between two pebble beaches which are quite popular with people just coming for a swim and to lie in the sun.  It is believed to have grown to be an important trading city because of its excellent access to the sea, and fell under many different rulers over the centuries.

Phaselis.  Could be a beach in New Zealand!
Built on a small peninsular between two bays.

Anyone for a swim?
Roman remains along the main street.
The water looked very inviting.
