Barcelona

Share

It's a bit warmer here in Barcelona than we expected, and we actually got quite hot on our exploration of this part of town. We arrived here yesterday in reasonable shape, having managed to get some sleep on the way.  I am amazed at the size of those A380 aircraft, and most of the time they provide an almost perfectly smooth ride.

Not actually Barcelona.  We left from Christchurch.

Our route took us over Iraq, weaving a way between the wars in Ukraine and the Middle East.

We flew to Barcelona with Emirates, heading to Europe for the first time since 2019, pre-COVID.  It's been a while but the planes and Dubai Airport don't seem to have changed.  With short stopovers in Sydney and Dubai the whole trip took over 30 hours.  We did get some sleep so arrived in reasonable shape.

A slightly flash limo ride to our AirBnb.

We walked down to and along the waterfront.
We decided to go and ride the gondola we could see, from out in the port to up on the Montjuic hill.  We found that walking towards it did not work, as you have to go some distance north to get around the marina and out to the gondola tower.  We found we were walking the same way as an american women, who told us all about her round-the-world cruise, which apparently she does every year!

Huge, expensive private yachts sit idle around the marina.

It was warm enough to tempt people to the beach, although not many were swimming!

We went for a ride on this "telepherique" across the harbour.

The ride takes you to part way up Montjuic, so its nice but not particularly useful.

It was a very nice day.  We stopped in the Poble-Sec area for lunch.

..which comprised a cheap spanish omelette and coke.

This is our apartment lift.

On day two we took to the Metro, to increase our range.

The Gothic Quarter is one of the nicest and most interesting areas to roam.

Finding a good coffee is our main quest in life these days.
