The Transport Safety Authority is responsible for keeping the bad guys out of the US, and apparently takes it very seriously. Entering the country at Los Angeles we noticed they all carry guns. We were fingerprinted (electronically) and photographed, then free to enter. We had to pass a more serious examination before boarding the next flight. We had to remove our shoes, empty our pockets, and remove jackets, in preparation for the through-the-clothes scan which has outraged so many people. But we were diverted to new line opened up to clear the backlog, so avoided the scan. However Sue was taken aside and her hands swabbed with something to test for explosives!
