Park Guell

Share
Today (Wednesday) we bought seats on the Hoho (hop-on hop-off) bus, and rode around the city from one end to the other over several hours.  Just in case you thought we were basking in Mediterranean sunshine, these photos will show us wearing all our layers including scarves and woolly hats trying to keep warm.  We got quite cold on top of the open-air double-decker bus but the view was much better than from inside the bus so we persevered.
A selfie in the bus mirror.  Cold!
Our main goal was Park Guell, which is another of Gaudi's wondrous creations.  It is a bit further from the city centre which is why we opted for the bus.  It started life over 100 years ago as an up-market property development project pitched at rich Barceloneans, but the project failed to attract buyers and failed.  Eventually it was gifted to the city and turned into a public park.

Later we got off the bus and warmed up with a nice cup of tea, before continuing on around the south part of Barcelona, including a ride up Montjuic to the Olympic Stadium.  There were quite a few references in the bus commentary to the 1992 Barcelona Olympics, which they obviously still remember fondly.  (Sue: possibly because they are still paying for them!)
