Teba

Share
Teba is the site of an ancient fortress high on a hill, once on the frontier between the Moorish emirate of Granada and christian Seville.  Gary our guide told us the amazing but true story of how the scot James Douglas (known as "Black Douglas") was involved in the fighting here, while he was supposed to be on a crusade carrying in a box the heart of Robert the Bruce to holy Palestine to honour a promise he had made.  Black Douglas was ambushed and killed here by the Moors, so never made it to Jerusalem.

Today there was a cloudless blue sky, but the wind was cold up there.  We climbed up the hill to the tower which still stands there, surrounded by the scattered remains of the fortress.  The site provides an uninterrupted view out over the landscape in all directions.
